Frequently Asked Questions
Can I wear makeup with eyelash extensions?
It is recommended to avoid wearing makeup for the first 24-48 hours after getting lash extensions to allow the glue to fully bond. After this time frame, it is safe to wear makeup, but oil-based products should be avoided as they can weaken the adhesive bond. It is also important to gently remove makeup with a non-oil-based makeup remover, using a cotton swab to avoid any direct contact with the lashes. We also suggest using an eyelash extension sealer to protect and extend the life of your lash extensions. At SK's Beauty Bar, we offer a range of makeup-safe products and will provide personalized aftercare instructions to ensure the longevity and health of your lash extensions.
I've never had lash extensions before. What can I expect if I get them done at SK's Lash & Brow Bar?
At SK's Lash & Brow Bar, you can expect a personalized and professional experience when getting your lash extensions done. During an initial consultation, I will discuss with you the style and look you desire, as well as the length, thickness, and curl that suits your natural lashes. Before the process begins, I will thoroughly clean your lashes to ensure they are free of any makeup or oils, and place under-eye pads to protect your skin. Using a gentle adhesive, I will apply each lash extension individually to your natural lashes, giving you the desired fullness and length you want. Because I am still learning and improving my skills, the process can take around 240-315 minutes to complete. You may feel some slight discomfort during the process, such as a mild irritation in your eyes or slight pulling sensation on your lashes, but it should NOT be painful. It is important to keep your eyes closed throughout the procedure, to avoid any discomfort or danger to your eyes. After the procedure, you can expect your lashes to look full and voluminous, but also natural and lightweight. I recommend avoiding getting your lashes wet for the first 24-48 hours and avoiding using any oil-based products or makeup around the eyes. With proper care and maintenance, your lash extensions can last up to four weeks. At SK's Beauty Bar, our goal is to enhance your natural beauty and give you the confidence you deserve.
How can I prepare for my lash appointment?
1. Come to your appointment without any makeup on your eyes. Before your eyelash extensions are applied, I will need to thoroughly clean your natural lashes. Makeup can interfere with this process and affect the adherence of lash extensions.
2. Avoid caffeine or other stimulants before your appointment. While it might be tempting to grab a coffee or an energy drink before your appointment, these can cause your eyes to twitch or flutter, which can make it difficult to apply your extensions accurately.
3. Plan to relax during your appointment. Depending on the type of extensions you choose, your appointment at SK's Beauty Bar could take up to three and a half hours. You'll need to lie still for that time, so wear comfortable clothes, bring some headphones, and try to clear your schedule of any pressing obligations.
4. If you're nervous about your appointment, or if you think you might need to take a break during the application process, communicate with me so that I can prepare reasonable accommodations and ensure your appointment goes smoothly! By following these simple guidelines, you'll be well prepared for your appointment at SK's Beauty Bar and can expect to leave with beautiful, long-lasting lashes.
How long do eyelash extensions usually last?
Eyelash extensions can last anywhere from 2-4 weeks, depending on how well they are taken care of. It's essential to avoid rubbing or pulling on the lashes and to avoid oil-based products, as they can break down the adhesive. Proper maintenance, including regular touch-ups and cleaning with a special lash cleanser, can help extend the life of your extensions.
Will getting eyelash extensions damage my natural lashes?
We prioritize the health and safety of your natural lashes above all else. When applied correctly, eyelash extensions will not damage your natural lashes. However, improper application or neglecting proper aftercare can result in damage or breakage of your natural lashes. It is also important to note that everyone's lashes are unique and some may be more sensitive to extensions than others. I will assess the condition of your natural lashes and discuss any concerns or limitations with you before beginning the application process. I will also provide detailed aftercare instructions and recommend coming in for regular maintenance appointments to ensure the health and longevity of your lashes.
What are lash infills (fill-ins)?
Lash infills are a way to maintain the fullness and length of your lash extensions. As your natural lashes shed, the extensions will naturally fall out with them. After a few weeks, you may notice gaps in your lash line where extensions have fallen out. That's where lash infills come in. I will carefully apply new extensions to the natural lashes that have grown in since your last appointment, filling in the gaps and maintaining the fullness of your lash line. I recommend coming in for a lash infill appointment every 2-3 weeks to keep your extensions looking their best. This not only saves you time, but it also saves you money as you won't need to get a new full set every time your lashes need a touchup.
How do I clean my strip lashes from SK’s Beauty Bar?
At SK's Beauty Bar, we understand the importance of maintaining and cleaning your lash strips to ensure they last longer.
Here is one method for cleaning lash strips:
1. Gently remove any excess adhesive from the lash band using a clean spoolie brush.
2. Soak a cotton pad in micellar water or oil-free makeup remover.
3. Hold the cotton pad on the lash strip for a few seconds, then gently wipe away any remaining makeup or residue.
4. Rinse the lash strip with lukewarm water and use the spoolie brush to reshape it.
5. Lay the lash strip on a clean towel to air dry before storing it in its protective case.
Here is another way to clean your strip lashes:
1. Gently remove the adhesive from the lash strip using a tweezer or your fingers. Be careful not to pull too hard as it can damage the lash strip.
2. Prepare a bowl of warm water and add a small amount of gentle shampoo or baby soap.
3. Soak the lash strips in the soapy water for 5-10 minutes.
4. Use a clean toothbrush or brush to gently remove any excess dirt or debris from the lash strips.
5. Rinse the lash strips thoroughly in clean water to remove any soapy residue.
6. Pat the lash strips dry with a clean towel and let them air dry completely before storing them.
It's important to note that you should never apply mascara or any other product to your lash strips from SK's Beauty Bar as it can damage the lash hairs and reduce their lifespan. Also, avoid using any harsh cleaners or chemicals that can strip the adhesive or cause them to lose their shape. By following these simple steps, you can ensure your lash strips stay clean and hygienic, allowing you to enjoy beautiful and amazing looking lashes every time you use them.
I got the strip lashes on, but I keep getting poked in my inner/outer eye. How do I fix this?
When wearing strip lashes, it's important to ensure that they are properly fitted and trimmed to match the length of your natural lash line. To fix the issue of getting poked in your inner/outer eye, we recommend carefully trimming the lashes to fit your eye shape and size. Use small, sharp scissors to trim the outer edges of the strip lashes. Be sure to measure and trim a little at a time to avoid cutting off too much. Additionally, gently curling your natural lashes before applying the strip lashes can help to prevent them from poking your eyes.
